After the necessary postponing of the 2021 conference due to the pandemic restrictions, the organizing committee of the 8th International Anthracology Meeting – anthraco2023 – is glad to inform that the event will take place in the city of Porto, Portugal, in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, between 29 August and 02 September 2023, post-conference excursion included.

As mentioned in previous communications, anthraco2023 will gather specialists in charcoal and wood analysis focusing on both archaeological and natural sedimentary contexts, within the broad themes of Human Paleoecology, Ethno-archaeology and Environmental History. State-of-the-art theoretical and methodological approaches in charcoal science either in site-studies or regional/extra-regional perspectives, as well as innovative experimental and laboratorial advances in dendroanthracology and related fields will surely make this a very stimulating meeting.
